At Grant Me Tomorrow, our mission is to educate the public about the various levels of mental health challenges that people face, attempt to erase the stigma in our society that keeps people from seeking treatment, advocate for robust reform and improvement within mental healthcare systems, and promote proactive suicide prevention through student education and public outreach. It is our belief that by starting a proactive conversation between mental health doctors, therapists, patients, their friends, and their families, frequently overlooked problems can be addressed, averting crisis and saving lives.
Founded in 2023, Grant Me Tomorrow was established by the family of then 27 year old Grant Hileman, who lost his 20 year battle with treatment resistant depression and debilitating social anxiety. Despite his unrelenting determination to receive mental health treatment, Grant found himself losing faith that he could ever truly be helped.
While he was fully open with and supported by his immediate family about his mental health struggles, Grant kept such matters from most of his friends and extended family, further isolating himself due to embarrassment and shame. Shocked & tormented by the harsh reality of losing Grant to suicide, his family was left feeling determined to expose the numerous factors that would have helped Grant live to see another tomorrow, had he been fully helped.
Grant's immediate family has grown to believe that suicide awareness is not enough, despite this movement's best intentions. They advocate for the urgent need for more practical and accessible solutions for those who need ongoing and/or urgent assistance from a personal support system, as well as mental health practitioners. To jumpstart
Grant's immediate family has grown to believe that suicide awareness is not enough, despite this movement's best intentions. They advocate for the urgent need for more practical and accessible solutions for those who need ongoing and/or urgent assistance from a personal support system, as well as mental health practitioners. To jumpstart and promote their cause, and because Grant was a filmmaker, his family decided to create a documentary with the goal of starting a conversation about mental health improvements that are desperately needed - ones that would have most likely saved Grant's life. Currently in production, this documentary is being directed by filmmaker Emily Hileman, Grant's sister, who will use his story, as well as others' stories, as a catalyst for the devastating consequences of unaddressed holes in our society's treatment of mental health.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission of improving and saving lives!
In his honor, we want to help others like Grant, who was plagued with hopelessness, isolation, and shame caused by mental health struggles.
